Learn Exactly How Jenny Q. Ta Succeeds

It is always humbling to talk with inspiring people. There I was, well into conversation with two very powerful and inspiring women, Jenny Q. Ta, and Shinta Dhanuwardoyo. Both making serious moves in empowering startups to find funding. Being influential women in tech, they are also very passionate about giving back, mentoring, and helping women learn to assert their power in the startup environment.

One of the things that struck me while reading Jenny’s background was her passion for learning. Since I had her in-person, I decided to dig a bit deeper and learn more.

Ryan: Can you talk about the difference between going out into the real world versus staying in and studying and putting your head to the books – do you believe that knowledge is power?

Jenny: Oh, totally.

Ryan: It’s sort of the great equalizer when there are so many things working against. That’s the one thing that you can’t really refute. I mean, you can criticize somebody on the way they look or the way they talk, but at the end of the day, if what’s coming out of your mouth is golden, it’s like, “Okay, I can’t really argue with that.”

Jenny: Exactly.

Jenny’s top study tips:

  1. Read. Read. And read!
  2. Get informed on global issues, not just locally and nationally.
  3. If you’re unsure of something, learn it immediately.
  4. Your phone is your library, use it often.
  5. Practice makes perfect by sharing with others areas you’ve learned.
  6. Start a blog on the topics that you’ve learned. That way, you’ll get feedback.
  7. Social media “search” on areas you’ve learned, to see if others have similar or different views.
  8. Turn lessons into quotes. If you can do that, you’ve mastered it.
  9. Every second is a second to learn something new. Use it.
  10. Challenge yourself with new topics to dissect.
